crank the volume knob and get nice power tube saturation at low volumes.
"GLADIATOR MOD" for the ENGL Invader 100/150:
(scroll down for SOUNDCLIPS)
This Mod increases:
Channel 1 gets bigger, more open, more dynamic + sparkles more.
Channel 2 gets tighter crunch, more articulate + pushes more air.
Channels 3 + 4 get tighter, more articulate + more agressive.
The result is a more powerful and more penetrating tone.
The Invader becomes the GLADIATOR
NOTE: The original factory tone can always be SWITCHED BACK ON !
The clips below were recorded with an SM57 in front of a 4x12 cab with UK made Celestion G12H-100 speakers. They are linear recordings without any EQ added.
We recorded 2 pairs of clips, the first clip from each pair being the original factory tone, the 2nd clip being the modded tone.
All 4 clips were recorded with exactly the same setup and recording settings.
Testimonial by Tom Tate - Riverside, CA:
I went to Jens' shop to have him install his DeKompression and variac mod on my Diezel Herbert. I was so impressed with Jens' work and knowledge that I asked him which Engl he recommends for Hi Gain and he said the Invader 150 was the best and his DeKompression mod would also open up the amp's sound.
I went with Jens' suggestion on the Invader 150 and brought the amp to him for his DeKompression and variac power scaling mods. Jens' work is very clean and professional. His accessibility and communication are also fantastic. After picking up the amp from Jens I got it home and was BLOWN AWAY at how GREAT this amp sounds now! Jens' DeKompression mod really opens the Invader 150 up to a gorgeous sounding amp whether playing clean, some gain or all out gain onslaught. Now the amp sounds so fantastic and open it has to be heard in person to fully appreciate the difference. Jens' DeKompression mod coupled with his variac power scaling mod have made my Invader an amazing guitar amp with unmatched power and tonal diversity.
