I've been sitting around for months wondering why I couldn't get the tone I wanted out of my 5150. After searching around I found Kruse Kontrol Amplification and went to the website and listened to the comparison Sound Clips of the SuperCharge mod. I took my Peavey 5150 II in and after getting it back I was blown away by the tone, The tone I've been chasing !!! Now I'm taking my other 6505 plus I have as a back up to get that one modded, too.
I have a lot of friends at Guitar Center and after I got the SuperCharge Mod done I went over to Guitar Center to meet up with Robert (manager) a good friend of mine. He is also with the band My Children My Bride. We're both tone chasers and he wanted to hear the mod.
We took the Kruse modded Peavey 6505 into the isolation both and fired it up and Robert was blown away.
Then we fired up a $3600 Friedman Steve Stevens head and A/B'ed both amps. The Kruse modded Peavey 6505+ just sounded better with more overdrive that was clearer and more transparent than the Friedman."
Cost of used 6505+ with added mods: $1,000.00

When I first got my Peavey 6505+, I needed to play it quietly in my apartment, so I asked Jens @ Kruse Kontrol Amps to install his Variac Mod. I heard great things about his other sound-enhancing modifications, so I also had him install the Supercharge mod at the same time.
First of all, the Variac mod is a life saver! I get to play through my real rig and with exactly the sound I want, but at volumes that don't disturb the neighbors.
When doing an A/B comparison, this mod already made a huge difference when playing the amp quietly at home. At low volumes, and with the mod turned on, it's really sweet to hear everything you're playing very articulated and clearly… and somehow I still get that "thump" and resonant speaker response that some amps only give you when you drive the cab to the limit. Pretty awesome for a practice setup!
Whenever I turn the Supercharge mod OFF now, and not being used to how the amp sounded stock, it seems similar to putting in earplugs! The sound loses its definition, becomes kinda muffled, and basically turns into garbage. I can't believe how bad that Peavey sounds WITHOUT the Supercharge mod.
I joined a new band recently, and after rehearsing with small combo for convenience a few times, I brought my 6505+ with me for the first time. Has it ever happened to you, that your bass player and drummer don't stop raving about how awesome your guitar sound is? Yeah… me neither, until that day! The descriptions ranged from ballsy, masculine and "emanates authority" to more regular comments such as huge, fat and "moves a lot of air". Some such comment after every single song :) That thing's an ego enhancer… and every guitar player needs a bigger EGO, hahaha!
The reverse is also the case - I tried ONCE to play a song with the Supercharge mod turned OFF. Complaints all around.
Seriously, though. If you have a Peavey 6505+, the Supercharge mod is an absolute MUST! You have no idea what potential this amp has until you've heard it!

I had never been really happy with the tone of my 5150II. It always was a very dark and muddy sounding amp, The clean channel was pretty much useless to me and the clean channel with crunch on was just okay, but I made the best of it, but always was searching the internet at different MODs, I tried to bias it myself but could not get it hot enough to achieve to tone I wanted.
So in comes KruseKontrol and Jens, I contacted him and he was instantly very helpful and said he could do a Bias Mod “for a very fair price compared to some I had seen on the net” but I decided to have Jens do the Super Charge Mod on my amp as well. WOW, this thing is a fire breathing monster now!!! No more muddiness the clean and crunch of channel 1 are so much more clean and punchy and cut through the mix of my band like never before, In fact, being a Rhythm Guitar Player, I am using Channel 1 almost exclusively and I only go the High Gain Channel 2 if I need a little more boost for the little soloing I do or if I’m playing some harder metal.
I cannot praise Jens enough, he is very professional, knowledgeable and always took the time to answer all my questions, I HIGHLY recommend his services!!!
I am going to take my amp back to him to have him do a three channel mod so I can seperately dial into the clean + crunch channels' volume levels.
I’m also going to have him install his Variac Power Mod so I can CRANK IT UP in some of these smaller venues I play at and not kill the band, sound man or club staff.
